UK Bribery Act Guiding Principles

UK Bribery Act Guiding Principles

On 30 March 2011, the UK Ministry of Justice published its guidance on what commercial organisations can do to prevent bribery, in application of section 9 of the Bribery Act 2010.

UK Bribery Act Guidance   In Article 6.2 of its UK Bribery Act 2010 Guidance, the British Government has cited the interest of external verification and certification against anti-bribery standards:

"...organisations might wish to consider seeking some form of external verification or assurance of the effectiveness of anti-bribery procedures. Some organisations may be able to apply for certified compliance with one of the independently-verified anti-bribery standards maintained by industrial sector associations or multilateral bodies".

The UK Bribery Act entered into force on 1 July 2011.
In response to the UK Guidance consultation, ETHIC Intelligence published an article on the added value of certfication beyond external verification. Certification:

  1. Provides a clear and identifiable standard;
  2. Increases visibility of anti-corruption commitments;
  3. Provides support for internal communications and management;
  4. Provides standard, internal target objectives for anti-corruption policies.
